Muni Bahadur Shakya, computer scientist from Nepal

Muni Sakya was Born in Patan in 1942. Science and technology attracted him since childhood. As a boy he designed and fabricated radio receiver to listen Radio Nepal. He worked in Radio Nepal as a technician after his degree in radio engineering from India in 1962. In 1970 he received Scholarship from British Council for degree computer engineering in England. He has also  undertaken special corporate training in microcomputers in France, and worked over 4 years in Research & Development in microcomputer designing in USA until 1983.
He made power supply unit and video card himself and bought a keyboard from the US and made the monitor from a Russian television.In 1979, he made the first microcomputer in Nepal. For this,  At the South Asian Regional Conference on computers, held in Kathmandu in 1979, Sakya demonstrated his microcomputer.

 In 1995 opened the company for manufacturing computer cards, Sun Moon Computer , and also established Hi-Tech Pioneer Ltd in Nepal. Sakya’s primary interest is in designing systems that can be operated in the Nepali language. He did his first demonstration of computing in the Nepali bhasa on a microcomputer with the display of Nepalese National Anthem in Devanagari script1983. Click for video
 on a CP/M-based computer. He developed a software with all Nepali characters and that was used to print certificates and checks were printed in the Nepali language using it. Sakya is still working towards computing with Nepali menus and commands so that people can work with computers without knowledge of English. He has also working in the field of robotics.  Around 2004-2005, he developed a robot that can speak IN Nepali Language.
He was honored with RONAST prizes in IT in 2006 with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. In 2012 he has decorated with Scientist and Excellency Award from the president of Nepal.
He is still working in the field of IT.

  2. So great an achievement Muni bahadur Shakya has made. But sadly, Nepal could not appreciate his invention in time...He should be recognized...
